Vote For The Hottest News Babe in Dallas

I used to travel through the DFW area for business a few times a year and while the weather was hot and unbearable, the gals were simply hot. I dug around and found 7 of the hottest Dallas news babes, I was actually going to include the very hot Jackie Hyland but she has just left Dallas and is moving back to NY, a shame for those in Dallas as Jackie is very hot. I took most of the list from Uncle Barcky's blog. If you don't see your favorite hottie Dallas news babe, feel free to email me at anchorbabes@gmail.com so I can add it.

Megan Henderson (FOX4)
It's the question I'm asked most often: How early do I have to get up to host Good Day?

The answer? 2:15am. Cue the violins...

No, the truth is I absolutely love what I do and getting the chance to do it everyday makes it all worth it (although I fully admit to cursing my alarm clock quite often!).

My broadcast career started in Wichita Falls where I did a little bit of everything - from reporting and anchoring...to producing and editing.

From there, I took a job at the FOX station in Salt Lake City as a general assignment reporter and eventually worked my way up to co-anchor of "Good Day Utah" and FOX 13 News at Noon. I joined FOX 4 as co-anchor of "Good Day" in August of 2003.

I grew up in sunny San Clemente, California, and graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism.

When I'm not working, you'll find me traveling, volunteering, enjoying great food, napping, spending time with friends and family, going to the gym, watching sports, and (most importantly) sleeping in!

Karen Borta (CBS11)
Karen is a veteran journalist who joined CBS 11 News in 1995 after working as weekday morning anchor and reporter for the top-rated CBS affiliate WTVT-TV in Tampa. She previously served as weeknight anchor and reporter for KRBK-TV in Sacramento and KCEN-TV in Waco.

Together, Karen and Tracy Rowlett have been honored by Press Club of Dallas with Katie Awards for Best Anchor Team and Best Newscast. She was also part of the CBS 11 team recognized by the Radio-Television News Directors Association with a 2006 Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence. Karen has also won a regional Emmy for Outstanding Live News Coverage, the Association for Women Journalists' Vivian Castleberry Award for Feature Reporting, two Best Newscast awards, and recognition as one of the state's "Favorite Female TV Personalities" in Texas Woman magazine.

In 2003, Karen received the "Distinguished Alumni Service Award" from the University of Texas at Arlington. In addition, she has been honored by numerous charitable and civic organizations including Mi Escuelita, Cook Children's Medical Center, and the Baylor Sammons Breast Center.

Karen is deeply devoted to the cause of finding a cure for breast cancer. Her mother and both grandmothers had breast cancer, and one of her grandmothers died from the disease. Because Karen has two daughters of her own, finding a cure is especially important to her. Karen was an Honorary Co-Chair for the 2000 Komen Dallas Race for the Cure and that same year she received a Macy's "Heart and Soul Award" for her work in the fight against breast cancer. In 2005, she received the inaugural "Commitment to the Cure" award.

Karen has also supported, since their inception, the survivors luncheon sponsored by the Joanie Hatcher Memorial Survivors Endowment Fund and the Celebrating Women luncheon presented by the Baylor Sammons Breast Center.

Karen is a member of the UTA Alumni Association, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, and she is on the Board of Community Advisors for the Junior League of Arlington, as well as the executive board of the Home and School Association for her childrens' school.

She and her husband Jim have three children, Jake, Katie and Kylie.

Shelly Slater (WFAA)
Shelly Slater joined WFAA in September 2006. She anchors the weekend night newscasts and reports during the week.

Shelly grew up in Plano and is thrilled to be back home in Wildcat country.

She graduated from University of Missouri-Columbia Summa Cum Laude. Before coming home, she anchored weekend newscasts in Kansas City, Missouri; Charleston/Huntington, WV; and Columbia, Missouri.

Shelly's brother, sister, and parents all live in North Texas. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, dancing, and catching up on sleep!

She and her husband live in Dallas.

Meredith Land (NBC5)
Meredith Land can be seen weekday evenings as anchor of NBC 5 News at 5. Meredith's reports can be seen on the station's 10 p.m. newscast.

Meredith joined NBC 5 in October of 2003, after four years at WCBD, the NBC affiliate in Charleston, South Carolina where she was the morning anchor and lead investigative reporter.

Land graduated from Clemson University with a major in English and a minor in Journalism.

She has won investigative reporting awards from the Associated Press, RTNDA (Radio-Television News Directors Association), South Carolina Broadcaster's Association. Most recently she was awarded a STAR award for producing and reporting a 30-minute special from Afghanistan.

She enjoys speaking in schools and at charitable events in the community. She has served on the board of directors for a ballet company and volunteers with the American Red Cross. She is also involved with Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation's Greer Garson event, benefiting Parkinson's Disease programs and the special care nursery.

Land enjoys golfing, skiing and traveling with her husband.

Macie Jepson (WFAA)
Thanks for checking out my corner of the WFAA.com world. It's important for you to know a little bit about the people you invite into your home every evening.

I came to WFAA in 2000 after six years in Cleveland, Ohio. It was like coming home; my husband is from Beaumont, and I'm from Shreveport, Louisiana. Not only is Dallas a nice place between our two families, but the news operation is respected across the nation. Working for WFAA was always my professional goal.

I anchor the 5:00 News with Jeff Brady and report on family issues. But I've covered just about every beat... education, medical and police- in my years as a reporter. I went to Cleveland for the challenge of a talk show and morning news cast. It was great fun, but I'm glad to be closer to family.

I juggle my work time with being a wife and mom. My husband and I have two daughters. It's important for us to teach them civic responsibility; my community involvement revolves around charities for children. I am currently a Trustee on the board of The Family Place in Dallas, an advisory board member for Forrest Outreach Foundation and a Gala advisory member for the Collin County Children's Advocacy Center.

I also volunteer for my church and support events of The Classics of Plano.

That said, it's also important to spend quality "down" time with my family. We like to travel and be outdoors together. I also like to ski, read and help my husband in remodeling projects.

I've received a few awards and Emmy nominations along the way, but the most recent award is something I'm proud of. American Women in Radio and Television's Broadcast News Personality of the Year. It's nice to be appreciated for a smile every now and again- especially when the news is particularly harsh.

By the way, my co-anchor Jeff Brady and I are OLD friends. We worked together at KTBS in Shreveport, Louisiana in the early 90's. Working together now is truly a highlight of my job.

Kristine Kahanek (CBS11)
A Dallas/Fort Worth market veteran, Kristine Kahanek was most recently a meteorologist with ABC affiliate WFAA-TV before joining CBS 11 News.

Kristine grew up on a horse farm near Columbus, Ohio and lived there until she was 12. Her mother, an equestrian, stayed home with Kristine and her younger brother, Brian. Her father, then a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force, was the person who sparked Kristine's interest in weather. Once he retired, the family moved to Boerne, Texas.

Previously, Kristine worked at KVUE-TV in Austin and KXXV-TV in Waco. With a degree in atmospheric science, she began her career at the National Weather Service in Austin. She is certified by both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. She was also named "Best Meteorologist" by D Magazine in 2005.

Natalie Solis (FOX4)
It's true what they say, understanding others helps us understand ourselves.

Well, in my quest for understanding (OK, let's be honest, a little excitement!) this girl from San Antonio didn't exactly follow a straight and narrow path.

Along the way, I traversed the jungles of Costa Rica, saw first-hand the weathered faces of Guatemalan farmers, talked politics with locals over un cafecito in Cuba, cozied up to a camel in Morocco, dined in the Eiffel Tower, rattled castanets in Spain, and the list goes on.

Sometimes I was gainfully employed, other times I was stretching each penny as far as possible.

It's no secret I LOVE to travel, but even more thrilling to me than experiencing a new place, is meeting new people, learning their history, absorbing their culture.

I started in TV news because I had an uncle in the business and what he did seemed like the best possible job a person could have: tell people's stories, simple as that.

I was a sophomore at Brown University when it became clear to me I wanted to be a journalist.

My mother -- a hard-working, single parent -- had hoped I'd continue on the pre-med track I had started on, but that wasn't in the cards.

I graduated and went to work at NBC News in New York. It was an amazing first job, but it was far more commitment than I was ready for at the ripe old age of 22. When else was I going to be young, unattached and virtually care free?!

So I sold my car, packed my bags and decided to see the places I'd only read about. During my travels, I didn't always know where I'd end up, but I knew I'd learn something.

I eventually settled down again, landed a reporting gig at a small station in New Jersey and from there moved to Miami, where there is no shortage of news, ranging from hurricanes and the devastation that follows to what seemed like weekly police standoffs and hostage situations to immigration and cultural issues to high- profile court cases, and then of course, celebrity drama.

Yes, I covered it all.

Now here I am, years after I left, back in my home state, close to my family.

But this isn't where my story ends.

Each day is still an adventure, only now I feel a greater responsibility as a journalist to the people nearest and dearest to my heart. When I cover a story, I'm allowed a glimpse into someone's life, and I get to walk in their shoes, if only for a moment.

My hope is that by telling people's stories we all get to embark on a journey and we all get to keep the souvenir -- a better understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
